Here is my first photo post for critique. This was taken with the Nikon D-4, 600mm f/4 VR, 1/640, F/10, ISO 640, -1/3EV, Manual mode, no flash.
I hope this makes it to the forum...I seem to be having some technical difflculties.

Thanks, Ray

Your first post is very good!
I envy your light, f10 at Iso640, and it doesn't look harsh.
The small aperture has made everything sharp and the bird looks pretty wild!
Looking forward to more, welcome.

Great color and light with excellent sharpness. Feather puff adds extra interest.

Hi Ray,

Don't wait so long for your next post, this is beautiful. I love to see unusual photos and those feathers on this beautiful bird are very special. Congratulations and keep them coming.

His pose is called displaying, apparently he was upset when he arrived at the feeder. We had a particulary large number of them raise out or place this summer. They love shelled sunflower seeds...

Wow, I like this very much Ray - looks like he's having a bad-hair-day! Very colourful and well portrayed against that nice BG. Well done.

You just can't go too wrong with painted buntings...always a crowd pleaser:bg3:
Love the windblown plumage look...it's "displaying?" I did not know they could
erect their plumage like this....interesting. Solid composition in good light quality.
Perfect dof. Well done.

Welcome Ray,
This image made me smile! I love the puffed up feathers.
Excellent exposure and I like the placement of the bird in the frame.
Great clean BG and it compliments the bird very nicely.
I like the diagonal line created by the simple perch.
Excellent first post,
Gail

Ray

Welcome to BPN, and a fine way to start.

Great colors, display, background.

The lichens on the perch could be toned down a little, to help keep our eye on the bird.

Look forward to more. Glad you have joined in on the fun!

Cheers

Randy

Hi Ray, a big welcome from me too. Striking colours, and the display really puts this up a notch. I like the pose looking up the line of the perch, and all against a lovely smooth BG. I agree with Randy, toning down the lichen wont harm the image.

Welcome to the forum Ray what a way to make a start - super shot love the pose and the colours. I know it has been mentioned but I agree about toning down the lichen a little bit.

Love it. The ruffled feathers and colors are great and a nice clean bg helps too. I would tone down the lichens aw well if this were mine. Nice first post.. welcome :)

Welcome Ray :)
What a start on this forum! The colors so rich and light just right, the fluffed feathers are the cherry on this treat

I'd hang this one on the wall

A belated welcome to BPN, and a great first post! The lichen on the perch definitely needs to be toned down, but all else looks good to me tech-wise. Comp-wise you had the right idea, I just find the subject to far right, I'd love a wee bit more room there...but still presentable as is. Great vivid colours! Looking forward to more from you!!

Great shot - the fluffed feathers make the shot - along with the perfect techs (though Daniel's suggestion to tone down the highlights in perch is a good one).
