Stuck inside today decorating, so decided to take this photo from the garden. Very dull so had to crank the ISO up and I used a teleconverter to get the increased focal length.

Canon 7D, 100-400mm, f8, 1/250ss, ISO1600, +1/3ev, 1.4 X converter.

edit: the title should just say Goldfinch.

Simon:

I like the colors on the bird, soft light was shadow free. In a perfect world, would prefer him looking the other way. Might consider removing the floating leaf at the left upper edge, and the small shoot right lower corner.

I assume noise reduction was needed?

Thanks

Randy

PS: I fixed the title for you

I echo Randy's comments on floating leaf and branch as well as head position. Nice lighting even though relatively high ISO. You got some nice detail with that lens and extender combo!

Cute subject, and nice BG, but I agree with Randy's comments and suggestions. This comp really needed for the subject took towards our left.

Nice shot. A thighter vertical cut might work as well.
