Hey all

Well here I am in my rental house in Portugals Alentejo!

I have been observing my local raptors and trying hard to get some half decent images.
This lovely bird appears to be resident and I bump into him most days. Having said that getting pics is quite another story.
For this shot it was using a largew dead tree as alookout and as I carefully approached, flew towards me.

Processed on laptop, which I am still getting used to, using CS5 and Topaz NR

Here a 50 crop, curves adjusted, NR and smartsharpen
7D 100-400 ISO 640 1/5000 EV +2/3

Richard:

Neat that you have this fellow so close, and you should get some easier opportunities. Because of the sky, the bird is underexposed for my taste. Looks pretty sharp, and nice you can see the eye.

I might tweak the exposure a bit to see if you can bring it up a bit and reveal a bit more detail.

Look forward to more.

Cheers

Randy

Hi Randy, thanks

for sure I will have a look at the raw, as usual haha into the light.
opportunities will come along soon.
I also report 13 Red Kites overhead yesterday!

Hi Rich, looks like you caught him well enough. If at all possible suggest try to get him lower in the sky or you go higher or both if you get my drift, an upwards looking angle is not the best. (I know easier said than done!)

Hola Richard! cool that you have this resident kite near you. I am sure you will have lots of opps. to photograph it. I like it as presented but would have preferred a wide spread wing.

Thanks Jon/Juan Carlos

Rather cool indeed as they are just around outside the back door.
ajaust got back from the shops to be told a large eagle was around today - typical!
thanks for the points

Looks like you had good focus. The image is under exposed to my eye. Selecting the bird with a levels adjutment may bring out the whites. On a cloudy day one often needs at least +1 EV.
