Tripod Help

Hi All,

I'm looking for a new Tripod for my Canon 500mm F4 IS - Any ideas?...Don't mind what price just looking for something stable but not overly heavy.

The standard lightweight tripod for use with a supertelephoto lens is one of the carbon fiber models sold by Gitzo, RRS, Induro and other manufacturers. Many to choose from, and your final choice will depend on factors such as the size you need (a function of your height), whether you want a center column, etc.

I am in the same situation, looking for a tripod for use with a 500 F/4 IS II & 7D, I will be doing a good amount of hiking with it. I have been looking at Gitzos, and am trying to decide between Series 2, Leveling Series 2 and Series 3. Am I crazy to be considering a Series 2 vs Series 3? If Series 2 is actually practical in this situation, is the leveling feature worth extra cost & weight?
