Just playing around with some photos I took locally and thought I'd post this kangaroo from the Flinders Ranges. Not sure the species. Shot mid morning into the sun. They are pretty flighty I've found so I don't have much to post I'm afraid.

Hi Hilary, so the shot is 'backlit' then?

I might look at Levels and move the RH slider in just to lift it a bit more on the brights, see if you can get some more detail in the face, not much, as it would be in shadow, but I think it would help. Just fractionally coming in either side on the crop (724 x 1024) skip seems to sit better in the ROT's, as it's right on the vertical line, but this isn't a straight jacket, just a thought. Good to see more 'locals' from you.

Thanks Steve, had a look at your suggestions which work for me pretty well apart from the crop which I'm not sure about. I tend not to crop or compose using the rules, per se, but go with an aesthetic which I find pleasing, using more a balance rule of my own. I know that it becomes subjective, but as you know I also like square crops! There is no hope for me..... :t3

There is no hope for me.....

A lost cause indeed, we have tried over the years sadly, but there is always one. :bg3: Re crops, whatever works for you, no problem.

Hilary -not a "lost cause" but a rebel! Good suggestions by Steve for taking this up a notch. Looks like s/he is checking you out as well. I for one am enjoying seeing some of your locals.

TFS,
Rachel

Thanks Rachel, I don't have much taken around here but must try to get out more.

I like the DOF and view of the habitat. Like the subject too. Would like to see a touch more light/detail in the face or taken to more of a silhouette. Seems kind of in between.

It's good to see these Oz locals, Hilary, but I'm afraid the image isn't doing much for me...perhaps too contrasty? Perhaps it would've been better with no bush in front and next to the Joey, creating a simpler composition and enhancing the rim-light? :e3

I think I was grasping at straws somewhat with this image, but mixing them up doesn't hurt. I'll stick my hand into the lucky dip of my Lightroom catalogue and see what come out. :S3:

I am with Morkel on this Hilary. I am a big fan of rim light.

Hi Hilary, I wasnt aware these guys are skittish. He was certainly aware of you, and yes to a touch of showing up the head a little more.
