I'm not a big shorebird fan I like the yellowlegs a lot. They are really tough to get in flight! I hope you like this frame

Tough bird, sweet light, and nice BG. Sharpness is excellent. Love that near wing, but do wish the far wing was more visible. You're doing great stuff with that new 600 of yours.

I agree, these guys are really tough to catch in flight. This one is lovely - beautiful bg and light; great flight angle. My immediate thoughts mirrored Doug's: near wing is terrific but I wish the far wing was more visible.

Hi Arash, this angle shows the near wing nicely, sharp, and what a killer BG.

Hi Arash

This is a juvenile Greater Yellowlegs, with the spotted secondaries clinching the ID. :w3 The bill is really quite short for this species, so it is probably a young male. Other pro GY features are the position of the nostrils on the two toned bill. Hardly any gap between head feathers & nostrils on its Lesser cousin, which usually has an all dark bill too!!

A great flight capture BTW.

Cheers: Wayne

I looove yellowlegs! Thanks to Wayne for the info as I was sure this was a lesser initially.
I love the BG on this image. Great IQ and tack sharp as always.
I too wish that the far wing had a better position but would be thrilled to have this,
Gail

Ditto Wayne on all counts. Plus, the upturned bill. LYL always has a needle straight bill.

Killer background, great sharpness and nice close wing position.
Show me your beak and I will ID you we used to say. It is relatively easy when it comes to Greater versus Lesser Yellowlegs.
I should post a picture where the whole beak is covered with mud, just for fun.

Arash, great shot with your patented sharpness and killer BG. I know you were dreaming of a topside bank...:S3:

I also thought this was a lesser. Nice to have really informative birders like Wayne on this site.
I also think the far wing could be in a better position but that is nitpicking.
Great shot of a tough bird to get in flight.

First of all thanks to Wayne and Arthur for the ID help since this is a tough species to ID. And of course Arash did a great job, as usual, to show the beauty of his birds. I wouldn´t change anything.

Killer light and background. Easily the best flight shot of this species (greater yl for sure) I've ever seen.

I love the detail. The bird really pops from the background.
