Sanderling juvenile with breakfast

It's often tough to find these guys standing still, but this juvie was preoccupied with his find. From Plum Island early one morning last week. I liked the way you can see his leg through the bubble. I processed this on my HP notebook, which I've never done before; I hope it looks ok on a larger screen.

D7000, 500f4 + 1.4, ISO 800, 1/1000s @ f/7.1, skimmer pod

great action to capture, agree the bubble and the leg make it a little different. It looks a tad hot just where the near leg meets the body, not easy birds to get right as they are so contrasty.Will not be long before our shores in NW England are home to loads of these for the winter.

Hi Bill,
I like the low angle and the foot through the bubble as well. I think it is kind of neat how the 3 bubbles get smaller in size from left to right.
If this was mine I would clone out the black blob.
I like the striated blue BG as well
I like the color of the grub and the little curl on the end . it adds interest to the shot,

Really like this, Bill. Wonderful light, and detail and IQ on the sanderling. Great prey item. I would tone down the whites in the spot that Ivan mentions. I would also be tempted to clone out the black blob, as it's pretty distracting. I like those bubbles a lot.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your pointing out the white spot. I guess that's the problem with processing on my notebook -- that spot looks white but not overcooked on my screen. I'm not sure about the blob, but when I get home I'll try a version without it.

That's a big lunch. Ditto all the positives above. I believe that the image is a bit too contrasty possibly because the bird is over-sharpened--it looks quite crisp and jangly.

Mmmm, juicy lunch! Nice low angle, colours. That bubble is indeed a neat bonus. I agree in toning down that brighter white area.

Thanks everyone. Now that I'm home and looking at this on my large monitor, I agree that the bright white spot is a little hot - high 240's to low 250's. I'll go back and tone it down.
