Caught this younger bull out in the open on a blustery day. 7D, 1-400L, f6.3, 1/1600s, ISO 500, HH, cropped a touch from bottom and sides.

Nice rack on this guy and the grass setting really sets it off, Very nice.

Nice alert pose here Steve. I like the grasses & how the bull stands out from the BG. He looks like he is thinking about challenging another bull.

Steve - nice pose, detail and the vertical comp works well. You can really tell the wind is blowing based on the grasses. If you are not opposed to it, you may want to do something about the patch of green intersecting the rack on the lhs. Also maybe some ccw rotation?

A very 'Regal' guy this Steve, with an impressive rack too.

I like the comp, but wonder if, once you had this in the bag and this guy was quite happy to pose, crank the DOF up/lower the ISO so you have a much slower SS iie f/22 at 1/30sec, then having the wind blowing the grasses, it might have given another POV to the overall look & feel? I too thought about the patch of grass, and yes it does make the image cleaner, but no deal breaker. :S3: Lets hope this guy makes it to maturity and offers more images. Nice one!

Nice one, and you got both eyes visible. The green patch does not bother me.

Hi Steve,
nice image with a excellent pose of the subject.
Framed nicely, processing looks good with nice colors, likewise the contrast.Do not mind about the greens.
I would change or better tone down the highlight that is running across the BG, and maybe lighten the darker parts on the elk to make some detail visible, looks a bit choked.

Besides that like it.

Very regal Steve! Nice colours overall, and a solid feel to this one.
Good to see you posting again :5
Exposure looks great - though I am toying with the idea of a slight opening of deepest shadows?

What a rack! The moving grasses are a huge plus here.

Such a handsome guy. I love the vertical pose and the windswept look to his coat and grasses really add to this image
