I am taking a bit of a break replacing my old Mac and backing up all my files, so it is starting over in a way.
I don't know if I will ever look at past photos again, kind of refreshing!
Here is one last recent Great Horned Owl pic, I liked the one eye look a lot.
Big crop, 20% of original.

1/200, f5.6, iso1600, 600mm, HH, D800.

This is gorgeous! I absolutely love the included habitat in your composition. That perch just rocks, and I like that the owls feet and talons are exposed to the viewer rather then covered up.

The detail is excellent, that D800 really shines. The habitat does it for me. Great shot.

It stood up well for the big crop. The perch is ideal for a Owl and the Owl loks great, Dan.

This is beautiful Dan, especially considering the crop. I had one of these sitting on my arm at Yorkshire raptor center... I made my year.

Thanks for showing

Super light and details!
The lack of eye contact works in this image.

IMHO the brightness on the greens/yellow can be toned down :)

The talons on that moss look so perfect that this almost looks like a setup! :w3 Great diagonal comp, detail and expression. Love the habitat shown.

Very nice! I've never been able to get one "out in the open" like you did here. Mine are always up high in a nasty mess of twigs and leaves

Thanks for the comments.
Arthur, here is the out of camera RAW convert to jpeg photo.
It is a big crop and I removed a couple of branches.
If you get the right exposure and focus the D800 crops hold up pretty well, especially considering
this is ISO 1600 and 1/200 ss.

Thanks Dank. Considering how good the original post looks I would still consider making wider version starting with this crop, even more of a habitat shot.

I love this site! so much to learn here! effectively no other site on the web can teach you so much!!!

Love this species which I hope I will see some day. Arthur's advise on how to crop this one is very valid point.

That is indeed a fantastic branch he's on with the moss and the exposed talons. Wonderful image of the owl as well.
