Canon 1D MKIV
F 500 and 1.4X
ISO 400
SS1/1000, f 7.1
manual, on skimmer pod at ~7:00PM
Full frame-not a single pixel removed!

I have grown very fond of this yellowlegs and he has become incredibly tolerant of me over the summer. I no longer hide under a Kwik Camo sheet, or slither up in the muck on my belly. I just step off the deck and walk slowly towards him and he just looks and me, calls once or twice then settles back to feeding and preening.
I just love this one-not sure why. I know I got that flip flop in my belly when I looked at it on the computer.
Hope you like it as well
PP- NR on BG, levels, detail extractor on whites only at 12% and 4% on rest of bird. Cloned out a catchlight.
Commenst and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
Gail

Gail, so nice to have a cooperative subject, in great light, and with such a pretty background. I see it is full frame....my only suggestion for future images might be to back up a bit to leve more room for those long "virtual" legs.

I can see why you love it. The warm colors, soft light, and low angle are really nice here. I think a bit more room would look great, but it is fine as is.

Well done!

The colors of the water on this one are great and really complement your bird. I also like the ring in the water. I like it as presented. A capture with a little more all around would be appealing as well, but a different picture.

Hi Gail, perfect angle, and I like the slightly raised wing pose. Exposure, sharpness and details all good, and its the added blues in the water that raises this to another level.

Neat pose and sweet head turn. Low angle works well of course. I like the composition as is, but I like to give it a little more room in-camera for cropping options...for example it would be difficult to crop as an 8x10 without first adding canvas and recropping (of course, this is not an issue if you do not print!)

Gail, great capture. Besides the obvious "great detail and color" from me, I'd like to add that I like the natural gradient in the background. Really adds a little bit extra to the image! Once you get this good, I guess it's the details that push an image over the top!

Lovely shot,Gail.I like the Low angle with the Beautiful colored water and not to miss the Ripple in the water. The whites are well balanced and the Bird is Sharp as it has to be.TFS

I see why you liked this one. Great pose and HA, gorgeous light and bg, and the lovely blue ring of water. Great job getting this FF; size of bird in the frame is right on the edge but works for me.

Nice pose, HA, sharpness and it loos very nice overall, Gail. I was shooting Shorebirds her in Guelph every night during the fall migration back in 2005.
They came so close eventually, that I could not focus with my 400 f5.6 L as the min focus distance was 3.5 m on that lens.

Lovely pose and light, Gail. I can understand why you got excited when you saw this one! Congrats on getting him so accustomed to and comfortable with your presence.
