While we wait for a midwest section (we do have birds in Ohio);)...

Here's another place to visit if anyone is interested...

The Holden Arboretum is located in Kirtland, OH.
Directions can be found on their website at: http://www.holdenarb.org/

Their hours start at 9am for non-members, but I've been able to "sneak"
in around 8:15am.

There's two places I usually setup at.

One feeding station is near the Visitors Center (on the side), but for some reason,
they don't have anything out yet. But when they do, I just sit on the grass with
my 100-400 and shoot away. Also, you really don't have to worry about people
coming along scaring the birds, cause it isn't a place visitors normally head for.

The second place (and where the photo I've attached was shot at) is located
near Blueberry Pond.

As you follow the trail and markers, the pond will be on your right. The trail
then goes to the left, where you'll see a watch tower on your left.

On your right are the feeders. They have places to sit, but the chairs face
east, directly into the sun.

You'll have to get off the path and walk a very, very short distance so you
have a clear shot of the feeders (you'll be facing the benches). Be careful though,
lots of thorns. I just bring and old towel, sit on that and use a tree as support
for my back.

As long as you watch your background, you can get some great images when
the bird is only on the rope.

Normally around 9:30-9:45 am, the action is dead.

Hey Doug!

Thanks for taking the time to write this! This may be some valuable info for anyone wanting to get out with a camera while in that area and a welcome addition to the archives here! The image you walked away with is not too shabby either! :)

Thanks again!!!

Doug,

Thanks for the information. For those who just joined BPN like me, 9 month old posts are still new news. My brother and his wife live up that way, so the next time I'm visiting, I'll mention we go there.
