Female peregrine taken under sch 1 licence as the chicks were being ringed on Bolton town hall. Harsh midday sun and bird flying very fast as the ringer and his assistant did the ringing approx 30 feet above my position . Was a nice opportuinity to get eye level with the birds instead of shooting from steet level. Orig RAW processed on ACR, quite a lot of lightening to the under side of the bird and a little sharpening. Approx 50% crop and further sharpening in elements 10. Taken 21/05/12.
Canon 1DmkIV, 500mm, 1/1600, f7.1, ISO 400.

A great opportunity to have. You have done well to get details from the underside, but the light definitely does not help you here. Potentially you could lighten around the eye too, and try and get some more detail there. The steepness of the shot means the view of the bird is not standard, however, I have the feeling it is flying out of the empty canvas, rather than into it, which would be better. Like the kite image before, I think this would benefit from looser cropping, or if you haven't cropped that much, by adding canvas around which would be rather easy with the sky background.

Just wondering why you chose a 4:3 crop here rather than a more traditional 3:2?

Many thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ben for your advice. I will have another go at the RAW to see what I can do. I have cropped it this way as I have printed it out to 16"x 12" and have it in a frame at home.

Great capture, but I agree with Ben on the crop. Just a bit tight right now.

I have come back to this image a couple of times now.
I really like the fanned tail and detailed belly. The talons look good as well.
I am not fond of this crop and would add more canvas on the right and on top.
I also wish for a more symmetrical wing position.

Very good flight shot of this guy. The crop looks fine to me, I wish it was looking at the camera, but you can't have it all.
Very sharp for 1/1600 of the fast birds.
