great low angle and details. light was a bit harsh

Yes to the harsh light but you can learn to work on that.... I do like the placement of the bird in the frame, its orientation to the imaging sensor, and the o-o-f birds in the BKGR. For the repost I selected the subject with the Quick Selection Tool, pulled up the curve, and ran both Detail Extractor and Tonal Contrast from NIK Color Efex Pro 4 to the bird only.

Great low angle, and I like the oof birds in the bg. Artie's repost really helped the harsh lighting -- a good advert for NIK Color Efex Pro. Except for the halos on the repost, attributable I'm sure to a quick masking job on the jpeg, which you could avoid when reworking the original.

Love the wet mud on the foot and ground. I too like the OOF birds, as well as the low angle. Harsh light, yes, the repost addresses that...but the eye needs a catchlight or reflection to give it some life. Some fill or better light angle (lower in the sky) would have helped with that.
