From early this morning. A big crop that seems to have held up quite well from the 5Dmk3.

Grace:

Yes, IQ held up well. Sharp without being crunchy on the fine feathers, nice head position, catchlight, like the varied colors in the background. Good DOF.

Cheers

Sweet portrait! Would love to see the original as this crop looks very good - curious to see what the 5D3 can do....

I too would love to see the original, if you don't mind sharing. Consumer research. Grace, this is a lovely shot. Beautiful light and detail, and as Mike pointed out...most unusual. Unusual is good!

Detail is striking, as is the BG. Squarish comp works well. Congrats on such a great shot of this species, which continues to elude me.

Several of you requested seeing the original. Here it is...nothing done at all, just sized, changed color profile and saved as a jpeg. I try generally to crop very minimally, but may change my tune somewhat with this camera.

Wowee, that is a beautiful portrait, Grace. And what an endorsement for the crop capability of your wonderful new toy. Such exceptional detail, sharpness, and love those colors in the background.

Thank you for sharing the original, Grace. Photographers today are LUCKY, I'm sure we can all agree there...

I'm so mixed about cropping this much and still prefer not to. This came about from looking at the file closely and discovering what it contained. Certainly not all my 5Dmk3 images are capable of this.
