Common Australian Pelican, not in breeding colors, but one of the obvious advantages of having a long bill...being able to scratch in more places :w3

Waded out to some off shore rocks where a few of these were resting, hand held shot, kinda liked the funky angle of bird and rock

Nikon D300 + Tokina 300mm f2.8.......f7.1, 1/2500, ISO 160, -1EV, basic edit with shadows, and sharpen, no crop

Nice image Phil. The bird is actually in full breeding plumage - the yellow skin around the eye, the pink bill pouch. Sharp with nice detail.

Hi Phil, very nice colors and sharp details. I like the cloudy sky bg and preening pose. Don't worry against me but there is some imperfection in the upper right corner and some artifacts in the sky.

I cant see any artifacts, but I'll look closer soon, not sure how they would be there, it's just a blue sky. I see the imperfection though, and that will be a remnant from a border I initially applied and removed for posting here...I must look closer fromnow on....thank you Giuseppe

Phil,
Great pose captured.I always like panorama-crop composition.Lovely colors and lights.
Agree with Giuseppe, there is dark blue line on RUC border, minor problem.

Satish.

I like the preen, rock perch, and background (especially that there is cloud to add interest). What I do see that no mentioned yet is a halo especially noticeable along the bird's back.

Nice preening pose and the perch works well. Would have liked the bird a tad more to the left of the frame, placing him a bit more off center. You do have some smudges in the very upper right-hand corner of the frame. The blue sky works nicely with your subject.

Hi Phil, a different perspective for a pelican image, and it works for me. Good preening behaviour, and I do like the detail, especially on the bill. The clouds add a little extra to the sky BG.

Great detail, perch and pose, Phil. I too see a significant halo around the bird.

great preening pose the composition is a bit centered for my taste and I wish the sun was lower in the sky. nice detail in the plumage
