I just came across this German blog post (on the Isarfoto website, one of the best photography retailers in Germany and very popular
among nature photographers - I buy most of my stuff there).
http://blog.isarfoto.com/wordpress/?p=6104
which is titled "The Canon EF 200-400/4 in an Olympic field test".
Basically the post says that Canon had some photographers field test the lens. They hope that Canon will give a final announcement of the price and delivery time for PHOTOKINA.
They also speculate that the price may be over 10,000 Euros and mention some internal Canon sources.
They also quote Canon with: "im ganzen Bereich so gut wie das EF 300/2,8" which translates to " as good as the EF 300/2.8 over the whole range".
If this is true, this will be a spectacular lens - unfortunately also for a spectacular price.
