Real fine image Jim. Love the comp and perch as well as the great color. Nice clean BG which I feel might be just a bit too bright. Might darken the corners to hold the eye on the bird.

A fine image indeed! Agree it can be slightly darker.

Beautiful Clean shot. Beautiful bird and colors. I just wish you had a tad more than F4 for the tail.

Thanks Joe, Ofer and Amol for the comments and suggestions. Here is a version that isn't as bright.

Hi Jim,
You are doing some lovely set ups.
Great perch and composition. Lovely pose and IQ.
I prefer the OP colors.
If you had the chance to do it over again I would double the ISO to get higher F stop and more DOF for the tail but it is easy for me to be an "armchair " critic and not the actual photographer!!Everything always happens so fast in the field.

The repost is very nice and very sharp for 1/100.
A really pretty bird, a bit more DOF would look nice but from the settings,
probably not possible.

Hi Jim, very well exposed on difficult colours, and I like the interesting perch. Well placed in the frame, and you have a great BG there. I prefer your repost. :w3

Not sure exactly what the color of this species is meant to be so cant comment on the color, but it does look nicely composed on the grass stem, although I would take a little more from the bottom. I think your choice of ISO wass good, anymore with a 40 D and it would probably become noisier. I dont find the dof to shallow, maybe a little, but doesn't affect IQ at all I feel.

Fantastic setup, Jim. I love the pose, the perch and the bg. The repost works for me.
I'm absolutely fine with the DOF.
