These small transparent shrimp (about 1.5 in) are some of my favourite macro subjects when shooting underwater...taken in September 2006 on the reefs near Wakatobi Dive Resort, Sulawesi, Indonesia.

This is a crop, and I was torn between cutting off the antennae, or including all of it along with several very prominent and difficult to remove distractions...

Canon Rebel XT, Canon 60 mm macro, dual strobes

Comments and critique are most welcome and appreciated.

Cheers!

Way cool and ethereal too boot. I like the crop. What is the shrimp resting on?

Thank you. The shrimp is on a large 'carpet' anemone, which has short tentacles, kind of like the pile of carpet.

Hi Bruce,

Very nice, Iike the detail of the crab's foot pulling for grip on the anemone. These guys are always a pleasure to shoot.

I would like to see the shrimp moved back into the frame so that he doesnt appear to be running out of the frame. Usually it is better to have more room in front and less in back of a subject.

Thanks Robert and Mike. Yes, I can see where a bit more room on the bottom and the right may improve the overall composition.

Cheers!

That is just a beautiful image! The transparency against the gold tones of the anemone just knocks it out of the ballpark.
