Taken earlier but processed only most recently.
I would have needed an 800 + 1.4 for this shot.
Thanks for looking.

I like the colors and the nice BG. I bet you'd like the 800mm...I'd like to have what it costs :).

Now there's a handsome looking bird ! I still have thousands from trips away here and there in the past 12 months I haven't even looked at yet, so many of my images are not recent either lol

Not sure how far away you were, but from you suggest regarding an 800m I presume quite a distance, if so it has held up well with detail coming through in the whites and difficult reds, backdrop makes it stand out extra well...nice comp too.

Good use of fill flash Karl.
Blacks and reds and whites look good.

Karl, excellent pose and composition. Nice whites on the breast and beautiful BG.

Don't know why...the black feathers look a bit soft.

Great use of flash! Looks a bit soft - maybe motion blur.

Love the red on green...and the BG rocks! Looks like critical focus may have been on the bark just in front of the subject (judging form the sharp lichen in front of the belly).

Tanks Daniel.
The critical focus point was on the neck.
I was shooting from a Gitzo tripod and Wimberley head.
It is easy to keep the focus on the head, eye or neck.
Sometimes, due to the different textures the tree or bark or lichen appears to be sharper.
I also re-sharpened only the bird after re-sizing as I learned from you and Arash.
