This Blackjacket worker (Vespula consobrina) is slightly smaller than the rather similar looking Bald-faced Hornet (Dolichovespula maculata). They make nests underground as compared to the B-F Hornets that construct large above-ground nests in trees, shrubs, or on the eaves of buildings. 5D II, 100 mm macro, 1/160, f/16, ISO 100, light box, 2 remotely fired flashes, hand held. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Another great one Steve. Very good comp with a good subject angle to the frame. Love those hairs, and the eyes. I have never seen one of these. How large are they?
