Who says you need a dedicated macro to get great shots ?...very nice Allen, lots of detail and colour...marvellous looking species this one.

Hi Allen. The 300 f/4 makes a great "macro" lens for dragonflies - as your image demonstrates! Good overall sharpness and I like the diagonal comp. You might consider blending some of the more distinct edges in the background below the dragonfly - but it's a minor point. This is very nicely done!

Very nice shot indeed, I don't wish to detract from previous comments in any way, but I suspect your image would be slightly sharper at ISO 800 and or stepping down to f16, the thorax and left wing are very slightly soft. I would be tempted to fully exploit the potential of that 1D MkIV (I wish I had one!)
