This is a followup shot to Melissa's "Momma, will you let me in?". It is from the same morning but a different brooding moment.
Ever since I saw Mike Milicia's award winning plover picture with the 8 chick legs sticking out from under momma I have wanted to get a similar shot. There are 3 chicks under this mom but we can only see 2 sets of baby legs in this shot. Overcast morning.
Minor beach clean up and a 35% crop

Very powerful capture, Gail. Glad you were able to realize your vision. You have good exposure, nice details and the behavior is great. I may be tempted to up your SAT just a teeny bit.

Gail:

A fun one, she is really fluffed up there! Sharp, well exposed, good shooting angle.

Because she is looking straight ahead, a centered placement works, although I could see a version with a bit off the right.

Cheers

Very cool, Gail, Fun but poignant at the same time.
Very sharp, somewhat flat light, but very nice that Mom is looking at you.
I wouldn't change a thing.

I love it, especially the little one on the right that seems to be just leaning in, maybe to big to get total protection. Wonderful to have those dreams realized.

A lovely capture ,Gail. One can see the protective nature of the adult. Also like the RH chick 'leaning in' to get some protection.Would have wished for slightly less merging of bg and the white of the wing and belly . Stiil a great image.

Hi Gail, good low angle of capture, with good eye contact. I like the soft light, well exposed, the yellow legs pop nicely in the image.

Centered comp works so well here Gail. Nicely done. Love the tender moment. Soft light was perfect for this shot.

Sweet capture Gail...brings smile to my face..

I am still waiting to get a shot like this and where I shoot these birds it is full of shells and very difficult to get such clean FG and surrounding.

Great job, Gail. I love how she is looking straight at you. all the legs underneath remind me of the Nutcracker's Mother Ginger and alll her gingerbread children under her skirt. Such great behavior captured, and a super job on exposure. We sure had a pretty beach there.

Excellent behavior captured, Gail. Nice low angle and great comp to go along. Looks like she definitely has her "hands" full.

Nice low angle and well exposed Gail.

That is a sweet scene, the little ones are snuggling up with momma.
